Social Media and Website

  • Instagram

Clairo

Clairo makes the use of her instagram to present her music: the first sign of this is her main page on instagram where after stating her name she directly introduces viewers to the fact that she has a new album out. Another example of this is adding a link on her biography that will send followers or any viewers of her social media page to either her website, new album or a mailing list, however in this link she still promotes all her social medias even after just coming from instagram. She also takes advantage of her presence in social media to exhibit her merchandise and tour dates for wider broadcasting, instead of just limiting herself to her website. Clairo's instagram page not only promotes her music but also shows audience a peak into her life. She doesn't seem to follow a specific order when it comes to posting her feed and makes use of all the colour making her instagram vibrant and eye-cathing.

Clairo's website resonates with her personality, the front page of the website clearly presents the artist and has a video loop of her recording her album, however the first thing presented in her site is the possibility of viewers to ¨sign up¨ with their email to receive updates on the artist's music. The website is very direct and offers viewers the possibility of listening to her albums, purchasing tickets to her tour or buying merchandise. Although Clairo's instagram is visibly entertaining and colourful she decides to take a different approach for her website and creates a more dark setting with dark and limited colours, the typography used in her website also resonates with the energy of the website as it is old fashioned. This could be done by the artist to create a clear distinction between what she wants to represent in her music (website) and what her actual life and personality looks like (social media).

Beabadoobee

  • Instagram

This artists social media page is similar to Clairo's, however the images that are used gives us the idea that she is more spirited and outgoing. She has set her instagram page as a musician's page, which will ultimately separate her from any normal user pages and appear when artists are being searched by users. Beabadoobee promotes her music to a higher extent than Clairo. Oftenly, she will post posters of her album, album songs, tour dates and merchandise. She will even post regular day to day photos and in the description she will remind her followers whether her albums will be coming out shortly or whether they are already out. This artist also has a link to directly connect her instagram page to her new song on various platforms such as; Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube. This link also shares the possibility of being redirected to any of her other social media accounts. One thing that Beabadoobee has that Clairo doesn't is an elaborate presentation of highlights in her instagram page. The use of highlights put the artist at an advantage as she is capable of compiling all the feed promoting her music on one folder of highlights and therefore making it even easier for users to be informed.

Beabadoobee's website takes a more direct direction. She only promotes her new song, her tour dates and her other social media platforms. This is a more minimalistic approach than what most artists prefers to do. Her website uses very colourful pastel colours, again juxtaposing her instagram page. However one thing bother social media and her website have in common is that they both represent the artist in a messy and childish way, which might be one of the ways the artists wants to portray her brand image. This is clearly visible in her social media as the organisation and the actual content of the feed is normally very random, seducing and humorous. In her website this is also visible through the design chosen as it is a very infantile, due to the drawings and typography used. Both of these features are purposely depicted as being made by a very young child rather than a adult.
